The Womb Remembers: Why Healing Begins Here

The Womb is a source of divine power and wisdom. It is the portal by which our physical and spiritual bodies unite, allowing us to be born into this world. Deeply connected to the Sacral Chakra, the Womb is like a memory keeper with the ability to store and release energy. When emotions and energy are not transmuted and released, they are held by the Womb which may lead to painful, excessive, or lack of menstruation, issues with fertility, pelvic tension and pain, a sense of disconnectedness with one’s body, as well as blockages with intuition, creativity, intimacy, and self-power.

Womb Wisdom teaches us how to not only heal ourselves, but create new realities through living in alignment. Wisdom is defined as the ability to make good decisions and/or judgments relating to life and conduct based on knowledge, life experiences, sense, reason, and intuition.  Womb Wisdom is a reclaiming of feminine knowledge, power, and agency. It is a return to a way of living based on the feminine cycle and a veneration of divine feminine energy. Womb Wisdom is to live in harmony with one's natural cycles rather than constrain oneself with external expectations.

Many of us have not been consciously taught how to connect with our wombs and natural rhythms. Instead, we are held to patriarchal beliefs and standards that at best are willfully ignorant and at worst intentionally harmful. Women are given impossibly contradictory ideas of who they should be, from how they should look to how they should behave Even in 2025, women have to be concerned about facing legal repercussions if they retaliate against sexual assault or if they have a miscarriage or abortion. The immense pressure on women and lack of protection of our body sovereignty is used to disempower us. However, we have the power to reclaim our autonomy and release ourselves from limiting beliefs.

When we cultivate Womb Wisdom and understand the power it affords us, miraculous things begin to happen. There is power in belief - we do not have to come into agreement damaging social norms, we can choose to believe differently. We can choose to be our most authentic selves. We can choose to return to the original altar, our Womb space, hone our connection to intuition, walk with ease in our purpose, and realize our desires.

Cultivating Womb Wisdom helps us free ourselves from what Human Design calls our “not-selves”. The not-self is everything we have been taught to be or have made ourselves to be based on external expectations and/or experiences. So much power lies in our authenticity, and Womb Wisdom helps us to heal and reach a state where we are able to use that power to live our lives authentically. As we consciously connect and heal the womb, we remove blockages and limiting beliefs of generations - we release trauma, we break energetic bonds that hinder our expansion, we learn grace, we set aside unhealthy attachments, we embrace gratitude, we connect with our purpose(s), we protect ourselves, and we love ourselves to wholeness. As we strengthen our alignment, we are able to better harness and realize our power of manifestation. As the external is released, we are better able to clearly connect our innate intuition that guides us on our individual paths.

The Womb births more than children, our creative ideas are also developed in this Womb space. We have a direct power source to change our reality; although, unfortunately, many of us are not taught how to embrace and utilize it. We do not have to move with force or exhaust ourselves to succeed. Our power lies in our ability to transmutate, multiply, and magnetize. The real work starts within - healing begins at the root.

Daily Practices to Reconnect to the Womb

Below are some ways we can intentionally connect with and heal our Womb space on a daily basis :

Meditation:

Consider practicing Womb centered meditation. For example, lay down and get comfortable, warm your hands together and place them on your lower belly. Begin by taking deep breaths, feeling the air fill your lungs completely and exhaling as much as you can. Allow yourself to sink into an awareness of your body. Talk to your Womb lovingly, giving it gratitude and care. If there are traumas, fears, or insecurities that you are holding, recognize them, honor what they have taught you, and release them with your breath. When you feel ready, tell your Womb what you welcome into your life. Take your time. Feel the feels. All is well.

Moon Journaling:

Part of connecting to our wombs is understanding our unique cycles. We receive a lot of information about what is “normal”, but we can release normal as being the same as the majority. Although we have similarities in experience, your body is your body alone. Keeping a journal on your cycle can help you identify your needs and bring you closer to the divine blessing that is menstruation. Part of this journaling can be focused on the physical - what symptoms do you experience before your cycle and when? How does your cycle impact your sleep and vice versa? How would you describe your flow? Part of this journal can be more emotional/spiritual - as you track your cycle through the Follicular, Ovulation, Luteal, and Menstrual stages, how do you feel?  When are you energetic and optimistic? When do you need more rest and quiet? When do you feel activated and creative? When do you need to receive more care? As we grow more familiar with our cycles, we grow closer to our Womb space. It is important that we release negative narratives around menstruation as it directly correlates to our creative manifestation energy.

Ancestor Veneration:

Connecting with ancestors or beginning a personal ancestral practice can assist on our journey to reconnect to ourselves. We are loved and protected beyond veil - venerating our ancestors makes it easier for us to receive the knowledge and assistance they can give us. One of the first steps often taken is the creation of an ancestor altar. It does not need to be extravagant or expensive, sincerity is most important. All that is needed is a small table, a glass of water, pictures of important ancestors (please do not place pictures of living people on your altar), and a candle. It is nice to put items that your ancestors enjoyed as love offerings to them. You can also place crystals, flowers, etc, - it is really up to you and your preferences. This is your personal place to remember, commune with, and ask them for guidance.

Intentional Self-Care:

Self-care is not a new concept, but sometimes we may find it difficult to maintain a consistent self-care practice. Life, work, and family responsibilities take a lot of our time and energy. However this means that self-care is that much more important as we move from empty cup energy. Intentionally making tie and space to provide yourself with your needs is essential to your wellbeing. Self-care is not limited to beauty treatments, even though when we look good we feel good. There are deeper levels than the external. Self-care starts within. What do you really need? Is it more sleep? More support at home? Dedicated quiet time? Dedicated time to engage with creative hobbies that have been put on the back burner? Taking time to identify your needs and formulate strategies to meet those needs is a good way to start your self-care practice. Don’t feel discouraged if you don’t immediately see how to meet a need, some things may take more time to manifest. The intention has been set, and you will gain clarity on how to receive what you need as you hold loving space for that particular area.

Conscious Physical Movement:

Conscious physical movement is a great way to move stagnant energy in the body. If you already like to exercise, you can add intentions and affirmations to your existing routine. For those who do not, stretching is a good place to start. We hold energy and emotions in our bodies, stretching can help us release them along with the tension in our muscles. As we tend to store trauma in the hips, daily hip opening stretches can aid in releasing that energy.
